    Choosing Which Club To Use

    As you progress each shot down the fairway, the distance between your ball and the flagstick becomes shorter and shorter. This means that your goal is to hit the ball as far as possible from the tee shot. Then on all subsequent shots you will need to adjust your swing for accuracy and precision, not distance.

    This requires that you utilize different clubs for different shots. The club faces are made from either metal or wood. Different materials on a golf club will have different effects on how far the ball will travel, and how high it will go.

    Choosing An Iron or Wood

    Generally speaking, the higher the number on the club, such as a 9-iron for example, the higher the ball will go into the air, but with much less distance than a lower-numbered club, such as a 3-iron.

    If you are new to golf and are a little confused about these numbers and what clubs to use, don't worry, in time you will have a specific feel for each and every one of your 14 clubs when playing on the golf course.

    Safety & Health On The Golf Course.

    Lets face it, golf is a fairly safe game to play in comparison to other sports that have physical contact with much higher chances of injury such as football, basketball, baseball, soccer, etc. However, there are some useful tips that you can follow which will prevent discomfort and possible physical issues when playing golf.

    Prepare For Sunny Days

    When heading out for a full day on the course, take heed of the weather and prepare as best possible for sun exposure. It’s very easy to become sunburned when going a full round of 18 holes, even in partly sunny weather. Remember that you will be outside anywhere from three to six hours, so bring along a decent sunscreen and a hat as part of your daily equipment.Stay Hydrated

    Drinking plenty of water is absolutely essential when playing golf, especially on a hot, humid sunny day. Most golf courses supply drinking fountains located at a few of the holes, typically at the tee area. Be sure to take advantage of these water fountains by taking a few sips at each arrival. If you are not a water drinker then prepare your day with your favorite sports drink or something similar.

    Walking around all day under the sun requires plenty of water. By keeping your body hydrated with fluids, you will prevent fatigue and loss of energy. If you do not drink enough fluids, your concentration levels will decrease, your body will become physically taxed, and worse yet, your swings will suffer.

    Alcohol: To Each There Own

    Without taking any type of moral stance when drinking alcohol during golf, let’s just say that I prefer to have full concentration and control over my game. There is absolutely nothing wrong with having a few drinks, but consider that your game may suffer and for safety’s sake, if you are driving home after the game then it is obviously dangerous to go overboard on the alcohol.

    Also keep in mind that alcohol further dehydrates the body. Most of the time when people are having a few beers, the amount of water they drink is practically nothing. This in itself can cause you to feel very lethargic, dizzy, and possibly nauseous. Using your best judgment here, you make whatever choice you feel is right.

    Keeping The Course Clean

    Taking care of yourself is not the only measure one should take on the golf course. The course itself should be treated with respect. If you have garbage then do everyone a favor and keep it off the course. Place any type of bottles or wrappers left over from food and drinks in your personal bag or cart, until the end of the game.
