Putting Tips: 4 Changes You Must Make In Your Putt Shots
By Foursome
More advice on putting has been written than any other swing in the game of golf. Entire books and DVD videos have been made to help the average golfer become better putters. The reason is due to the fact that the putt shot offers more room for individuality and personal technique than the majority of other shots in the game.
1) Have A Partner Check Your Putting Alignment
The best training aid can sometimes be a partner or friend that you play golf with. Have him or her monitor both your set up and alignment during your putts on a regular basis.
Once you have had your straight putts checked, have your partner take a close look at the blade alignment on the breaking putts. This will help you to align yourself with the correct distance/left/right/center of the hole, and on a consistent basis.
2) Get Comfortable
Your number one goal at address should be comfort, plain and simple. If you are not tension-free and relaxed while standing before taking the swing, it will always be difficult to make those smooth strokes needed for a successful putt.
Worried about breaking the standard rules of setting up for the ball? Don’t worry – it is far better to think outside the box and approach your shots a little unorthodox in order to remain comfortable.
Those golfers that work so hard to be “technically right” miss opportunities to fine-tune their putting strategies with that unique and personal touch that can make or break the shot.3) Always Putt With The Same Type Of Golf Ball
This is a putting tip that you probably have not heard before, but one that can make a difference in improving your consistency of judgment.
Not all golf balls are made the same. Different compressions and constructions can affect the ball’s roll, and by practicing on the same type of ball each and every time you play, great strides of improvement can be made with your putting.
4) Avoid Focusing Your Eyes Too Far Ahead Of The Ball
A professional golfer once told me that when putting, she prefers to set her eyes a few inches to the right of the golf ball, and never ahead of it.
She claimed that this strategy gives her a better view of the overall target line, and from experience I have to agree. She went on to say that most players set their eyes ahead of the ball which oftentimes distorts the view of the target line before taking the putt.
