Dressing For The Golf Game - 1
By Foursome | September 22, 2008
It doesn’t matter what course you play on – private or public – a neatly ironed shirt with a collar for both men and women is an absolute must. Yes I know that some golf courses are not too strict about what you wear and may even permit a regular T-shirt and non-specific pants, but just like getting dressed for work I personally advise you to take a bit of pride in your golf clothes when playing the game.
Be proud of the way you look and bring your professional appearance with you. As odd as it sounds, I guarantee that you will have a better game. And If you do not want to go all out then a tennis shirt or a polo shirt will be just fine.
When considering what to wear on the golf course you must keep several things in mind:
1) The dress code of whatever course you are visiting.
2) The weather conditions.
3) Being comfortable.Strict Dress Requirements
Some golf courses hold very tight rules concerning how you appear when playing on their grounds. These strict requirements may be to wear long pants, regardless of the weather, or pants that at least reach to the length of the knee. Knee-length shorts are typically acceptable at most public courses.
If you plan on attending a course that has a rigid dress code try your best to have comfortable clothes to wear. Pulling out those old slacks that are an inch too tight is only going to make you uncomfortable and have less fun on the course. Plan ahead and shop for some golf clothes that are not only presentable at the best of clubs, but will keep you comfortable during the game.
Don’t Let It All Hang Out
Under no circumstances should you ever take your shirt off! I don’t care how lovely you think your body is, the golf course is no place to strip down. Have some class. This also goes for running shorts and any type of cut-offs/sleeveless attire.
Here is a sample list of golf clothes that you can wear to any golf course, regardless if it is a private course, public, or a golf resort:
1) Neatly pressed pants that are either khaki, black, or navy in color.
2) White socks.
3) A wrinkle-free polo shirt or similar type golf shirt. The color should be solid or in a pattern that is not too loud or flashy (think subtle).
4) A belt, solid in color, that matches your shoes.
5) Polished golf shoes.
